Energy Saving Tips

Here are some energy saving tips . You can save energy save money and save the environment at the same time. Each one on their own can save a significant amount of energy but put them all together and the savings can be quite amazing.

  1. Install caulking and weather stripping around leaky windows and doors.
  2. Clean or replace your air filters on your furnace, every month or so. This not only cleans out the air circulating through your home, but improves the efficiency of your heating system.
  3. Set the thermostat on your furnace down at night and during the times you are away from your home. This can reduce costs significantly and thus the carbon foot-print.
  4. Use blinds and drapes on the south side of your house to let in sunlight during the day and close them each night. Especially during the dead of winter, south-facing sunlight can warm your house an extra few degrees. Close the blinds at night, and it will trap the warmth and reduce your heating needs somewhat. Reverse these procedures during the summer.
  5. Reduce hotwater to F.130 deg or C.54 deg to reduce heating costs. It is important not to reduce the temperature below this point as bacteria can start to grow in the tank.
  6. When replacing light bulbs, use energy efficient ones. The most energy efficient are led lights an added advantage is that they don't contain any mercury. Mercury is bad for people and the environment if not disposed properly.
  7. Insulate your water tank and the hot water pipes coming from it. This will reduce the cost of heating water because the heat does not escape so readily.
  8. Seal duct work to reduce heat loss in areas not being used.
  9. When upgrading appliances, be sure to get ones that will save on energy. Look for the Energy Star Logo.
These energy saving tips are not difficult to implement and the savings can be remarkable. We can use these ideas and find other ways to save energy as well. Energy Saving Tips
