Environmentally Friendly Diapers
Environmentally Friendly Diapers
The most environmentally friendly diapers are organic diapers made from cotton. When cotton is grown organically, it is free of the multitude of pesticides and fertilizers that are used otherwise. Usually, the growing of cotton involves the use of a lot of chemical pesticides and fertilizer. Only growing cotton organically precludes the use of these chemicals. The chemicals are very dangerous for the farm workers and are also extremely harmful to the environment. It takes a number of washings to remove all remnants of the pesticides from the fabric. We really don’t want the tender skin of a baby to be in contact with these chemicals.
Cloth Diapers Vs Disposable
On the other hand reusable diapers prevent the accumulation of mounds of disposable diapers that contribute greatly to the mountains of garbage that municipalities all over North America are struggling with. The plastic covering on the diaper prevents them from breaking down for a very long time. In addition, there is the issue of the huge number of trees cut down to make the disposable diaper.
Benefit for Baby
In addition to these decided advantages for our communities and the environment, there is the benefit to the baby or toddler. Some of the bleaching compounds that are used to make the disposable diapers white are left in the diapers. This also can cause reactions on the tender skin of a child. Finally, there is a significant cost savings over time by using environmentally friendly cloth diapers.
