Green Travel
Green travel requires a bit more forethought. It requires that we think about using the mode of transportation that has a smaller environmental imprint.
Travel can be one of the most entertaining and enriching activities we can engage in. There are steps we can take to reduce our environmental foot-print. Sometimes we can decide between train and air, in which case train is preferable. If journeying by train is not possible, some may choose to purchase carbon off-sets or plant trees to compensate for the green-house gasses generated.
There are many things we can consider, in just about any holliday or excursion, to make it a more aeco friendly vacation.
One of the greenest options, can be hiking or canoeing. This is provided that we don’t disturb the environment by littering or some other destructive behaviour. Many larger cities offer a bicycle rental programme to fascilitate healthier green transportation. Often with a bit of fore-thought we can plan to walk from one place of interest to another in a down-town area.
When renting a vehicle, we can choose a more fuel efficient model. Public transport, such as buses, usually are a more eco-friendly option. If we are going short distances a bicycle is, of course, the best alternative.
Increasingly, it is possible to select accommodations with proprietors that are environmentally responsible.
There are interesting accommodations in many places around the world that are committed to reducing their impact on the environment. Some of these practises could be anything from the cleaning products they use to water saving appliances or even serving locally produced food.
Some tour opporators provide eco vacations that reduce the environmental impact by careful planning.
