LED Lighting
LED lighting (or Light Emitting Diodes) are the most recent and most exciting development in the
history of lighting.
Even though we are at the early stages of the use of Light Emiting Diodes for lumination, there are already a wide range of applications.
Over the last hundred years or so there have been a few developments in Lighting Technology, such as the incandescent bulb and then the florescent tubes. The next really energy efficient option for homes was the
compact fluorescent
bulb. Unfortunately, they come with their own environmental issues.
The most promising option to date is the
led lighting
replacement bulbs which are energy efficient and do not come with any environmental or health issues.
A very popular application of this technology is the increasing variety of
Led Work Lights
used in power tools and at the job site.
The
batteryless flashlight
is an incredibly handy safety light. It is easily charged by shaking and because of the small electrical drain by the LED bulb it can last a long time between charges.
LED light therapy
is another new and very effective application of this technology. It can assist with the correction of a number of disorders that people experience, such as Seasonal Affective Disorder (S.A.D.).
One of the most dramatic presentations of this technology is the CN tower in Toronto Canada. See image below.
