Organic Makeup

Organic makeup or organic mineral makeup is becoming a very popular trend. It is mainly driven by the fact that cosmetics and personal use products are not regulated in North America. The manufacturers of these products are not required to list all the ingredients that they contain.

Chemicals in Makeup

Most makeup products contain chemicals and substances that scientists believe to be linked to serious diseases.

Phthalates, found in some nail polish, fragrances and hair spray are thought to negatively effect the development of male children during pregnancy.

Coal tar, found in dandruff shampoos and other hair products, anti-itch creams (listed as FDC or DC on ingredients labels) is believed to be carcinogenic.

Lead is found in many lipstick products. It is a byproduct of other ingredients but has not been removed. Lead is very toxic to the central nervous system and can cause brain damage. The level of toxicity builds up over time.

The Canadian government is the first to voice concern over thechemicals D4 and D5 which are members of the siloxane family. There has been Little research on the chemicals' effects on humans, but nevertheless, they have been widely used in consumer products.

The siloxanes are found in a variety of cosmetics including lipsticks, lotions and hair care products.

Studies have found that D4 and D5, are slow to break down and build up in the bodies of animals. Studies have linked them to reproductive damage in animals, including tumors of the uterus.

The Canadian government's current concern is over D4 and D5's effects on wildlife because most of the studies have been conducted on animals, and these pollutants have been found to travel easily through the air for great distances. However, chemicals that are harmful to animals are often harmful to human health as well.

When these products are used the toxic chemicals eventually end up in the environment. During the manufacturing process there will also be toxins released.

Environmentally friendly makeup can be used without harming the environment and is healthier for the user. Organic makeup is available from Green Organic. See organic makeup by Green Organic You can nourish your skin and enhance your beauty at the same time.
