Pet Food

The ingredients in pet food are increasingly becoming a concern to researchers and consumers alike. The numbers of dogs and cats dying from liver problems, cancer and diabetes have been growing over the last ten years or so. It is being suggested that the quality of the commercial food we feed them is not appropriate for good health. Yes, even the best known brands.

It is important to recognize that in nature both dogs and cats have mostly meat in their diet. However, if you look at the ingredients in many popular dog and cat foods, you will find things like wheat, rice, sugar (or different variations of it) and different kinds of salts. In addition, you will find lists of preservative chemicals and artificial colorings which are totally foreign to a natural diet.

Things like white rice or potatoes and sugar beets may cause the animal to be hyperactive. Soy is also totally unnatural to their diet and does not digest well and may make dogs ill. There are a number of fillers such as cellulose, which has no food value and may irritate the animals’ digestive systems.

Having seen all of this it seems that it is best to prepare the animal food ourselves from real ingredients or find a supplier that carries food with wholesome ingredients. An example of such a supplier is Petacular. They are located in Canada and ship to Canada and the U.S.
